Hi, 

My name is Alexa Magsoudi. I created Dance Evolution to host Ecstatic Dance (ED) events because through experiencing Ecstatic Dance in California, I fell in love and just had to share it.

My first experience with ED took place nestled in a lil town in the red woods- Arcata, CA. It was the morning of my 23rd birthday and I had seen a flyer about ED and was intrigued. Prior to this, I only heard snippets of what ED was through my best friend, who experienced ED in Costa Rica.

So I just dove in, without a clue as to what the experience was going to entail. I entered a recreational center with a letter on the door -listing the guidelines and importance of consent when dancing. I then entered and was welcomed by an open floor, with towering ceilings, lyrical music, a DJ and altar at the center stage and canopies of tapestries and mystical decorations.

There were no instructions and so everyone began to dance. I was reluctant at first but once a song ("We Are All Related" by Nessi Gomez) I recognized began to play, my soul took over and my body followed. After that, I danced intuitively and watched as people co-created and danced to their heart's content. Overflowing with love and pure joy, I let the music guide me through diverse emotions, gratitude, healing and opening up to my authentic self expression. I danced as if no one was watching because ED provided a safe, sacred space to be seen by oneSelf and in community such a space was created.
